Operational Consulting Focused on Results

Picture
Business operations can be best defined as any part of the business that supports the mission of the company.  Individual Advantages business operations consulting can be general or specific to a certain department.  Examples of operations consulting may be Accounting, Human Resources, Sales, Production, Service Delivery, Vendor Management, Customer Management, Executive Management or anywhere that supports or reports directly to any of these business areas.  Using the BIZVision method, we will identify key areas where we feel efficiencies, growth, restructure or procedural updates will enhance the company.  The method we use to make proposals is very simple, we write a written recommendation that outlines the problem, details the solution and qualifies and quantifies the return on investment back to the company.

Omni Commercial Group, Inc. is an eighteen year old general contracting firm. Omni has experienced great success through the years, despite the dramatic reduction in construction related business over the past five years.  As the economy changed and the contracting industry consolidated, Omni found itself needing to review its overall operational systems.

Individual Advantages conducted its BIZVision and identified a threefold solution to the Omni request; reimage, rebrand, and structure.  Taking the years of successful business operational experience into account and working closely with the managers who have been seated since the late 1990's, IA used the existing image as a foundation and gave Omni a fresh look.  We redesigned the company website and highlighted the companies foundational experience individually and as a team.  We also documented and packaged the highly successful project management systems used by the Omni staff and branded the process as OmniCPM (Construction Project Management).

Once the initial changes were in place, IA aided Omni in obtaining GSA Contracts and expanded the company’s exposure by exploiting the company’s experience and new image, resulting in added opportunities and sales.  Omni has since added projects that include business process reengineering and further cost management reviews that will enable the company to better manage expanded projects and reduce operational costs.

The Epicenter Family Entertainment Complex was built in 1998 as a bowling center and restaurant, the dream of husband and wife bowlers, Dennis & Reba VanAcker.  The complex is a 45,000 square foot building on three acres in a town of 40,000.  The company had completion from a bowling center built in the 1950's and was still managed by the same family.

The Epicenter opened to much fanfare and experienced tremendous success for the first couple years, then sales began to decline and costs began to rise.  Individual Advantages was retained in 2004 to review the company and determine cause for the financial losses.

Using BIZVision as a foundation, we identified a number of issues with operations and identified a number of changes to the business that included: image rebranding to signify the focus of the company as a family complex, operational rebranding to match the new family image, functional operational changes to costs, labor and delivery of products and services.  An extensive Policy and Procedure program was implemented to help control all aspects of the company and standardize much of the company’s operations.

The changes began in August 2004 and were completed in June 2005.  Sales for the company increased by more than 35% in the first full year of operations after the changes were made.  Costs were reduced by more than 20%.  Other advantages was a reduction of labor turnover by over 300% and an ability to react and market to the community.

Sales continued to increase through 2008, when the economy reduced the discretionary spending in the area.  However, the changes allowed for the company to quickly adapt and control reductions in a way that today it is still an operating and viable company.
